Lead sentences of the many Amazon book reviews for a compelling new book. Women are falling in love with Lynn Donovan and Dineen A. Miller’s book, Winning Him Without Words – 10 Keys to Thriving in Your Spiritually Mismatched Marriage.
I had the blessed opportunity to catch Lynn and interview her in between marketing her new release. It is a pleasure and quite an honor to have her here.
Welcome Lynn. It’s so great to have you here!
Joanne, thank you for inviting me to your place for a chat. I’m amazed how God brought us together as friends through our online connection, She Speaks, and how we are walking a similar path in ministry. Neat!
Tell us a little about yourself. Where do you live? What are you passionate about?
I live in Southern California in Temecula where I share my life with my best friend, my husband Mike, my teen daughter who is 15 going on 27 (if you know what I mean) and my wacky dog, Peanut. We are living the abundant life through Christ today. But getting to this place has been a rocky journey. And sharing that journey and the lessons learned along the way is my passion today.
I married an unbeliever in a prodigal period of my life. Today we have been married for 19 years. He still remains an unbeliever yet, we have come through the challenges of living unequally yoked and are now thriving. My passion is to encourage all of those walking the path behind me to ignite their faith in Jesus and then step back and watch what God can do in an ordinary marriage.
Your blog ‘Spiritually Unequal Marriage’ began how?
I started my lil’ ole blog about five years ago. At the time, there were very little resources for those of us who live unequally yoked. I heard God calling me to share what I have learned from Him with others, thus the blog was born. I brought on a co-writer, Dineen Miller, shortly after I started blogging and we have been sharing our lives online since then.
Any advice for writers/bloggers with a story to share?
I find it so fascinating that anyone would want to read about my story or my life. But, I have found that if your write from your heart and commit everything you write to God, your words will touch someone and bring them hope and encouragement. I write with authenticity and honesty because that is where real healing occurs.
It is one of my greatest joys to know that someone will read my story and discover they are not alone on this crazy mixed up journey. They discover that I know how they feel and will walk with them.
My advice, share from your heart., share Jesus and He will take care of the rest.
What was your inspiration for ‘Winning him without words’?
After several years of writing online, our readers kept asking us if there was a Bible study or some sort of study guide for unequally yoked small groups. There hadn’t been a new study written in over 20 years, so we began to put together our book to create a study and to reach those who haven’t found us online.
We wrote the book with God’s help and offer 10 keys or principals that we know will help others. They have helped us in our own marriage.
What message would you like readers of your book to walk away with?
That is a great question. It’s my greatest desire that each reader will discover they are not alone. I want them to join our online community and mostly to discover Jesus can make every difference in his/her marriage. And finally, to thrive in their spiritual mismatch.
Lynn, what a blessing to get to visit a little bit with you. I am grateful for your friendship and pray the Lord puts your book in the hands of every woman who needs some encouragement, craves some marriage-inspiration and desires to draw closer to Him.
