This precious little girl is my Meghan. My firstborn, my daughter, my heart. I took this picture in 1996 during her preschool graduation. Already a headstrong and sometimes bossy darling, she was as proud as proud could be on this day.
And so was I.
On Friday I will once again sit with grateful pride, that my God has loved me enough to give me such a beautiful gift in my daughter.
Time has roared by like a freight train, dragging us along for the ride of our lives. Barbie dolls, father-daughter dances, soccer, school plays, all are flashing by in my minds eye. Only a day away from her high school graduation, I’d be lying if I told you I haven’t been weepy this week. Wondering aloud to God if I have taught her enough and loved her enough.
Train a child up in the way she should go, and when she is old she will not depart from it. Is the still small voice I hear.
She will be staying home and attending the local junior college for the next two years. A choice that was difficult for her to make. Almost as difficult as it was when we realized we couldn’t afford to send her to the college of her dreams. And still she worked hard, applying for scholarships, working at Starbuck’s, getting great grades.
I boast in the Lord for giving me a daughter who will be a CSF (California Scholarship Federation) honoree, walking the stage with her gold sash and gold tassle. Setting her apart from five hundred other graduates for her 3.5 gpa and above, all four years of high school. The recipient of three scholarships. Amazing.
There aren’t words to express how proud we are of her and how grateful we are to God.
