Interview with Erin Macpherson
- How do you keep from being Just Too Busy as a mom/wife?
I get up early. I know that sounds counter-intuitive, but if I wait until it’s time to start the day to get up then I never get caught up. So I set my alarm for early (like 5 am early) every day and I start my day with prayer, the bible and a cup of hot coffee. Then, I spend some time planning my day, choosing which tasks are musts and which are maybes and by the time the kids get up, I’m starting out ahead instead of behind.
- Your busy mom warning signs?
Wait, so you’re saying that the meltdown I had in the grocery store the other day as my kid threw eggs on the floor out of the cart was a warning sign? Just kidding. I know I’m just too busy when I start to dread time with my kids as another chore instead of look forward to it as an opportunity to bond. When a field trip becomes something to complain about instead of something to get excited about. When I have to schedule a simple afternoon outside playing soccer with my kids.
- When did you become a mom? Name, ages of children.
I was 27 (and a half) and my kids are Joey (7), Kate (5), Will (2)
- Name a few objects on your car floor.
A few? Well, for starters, there are about 14 sippy cups (while I can’t find one in the cabinet), 24 books, 15 socks (every one without a match), two boxes of cheerios (spilled), four bags of Goldfish crackers (crushed), three sweaters (theirs), two sweatshirts (mine), a pink blow-up flamingo (don’t ask), a receipt from a speeding ticket (no, really, don’t ask), two packs of gum, four baby toys, an unwrapped granola bar and a dog toy.
- Share a special tradition you have in your home.
Cookie Friday. Every Friday after school, the kids and I head to a local bakery and get cookies. We rotate who picks and we look forward to our Friday afternoon treat all week.
