A post about simmering potpourri may be a stretch when it comes to “Peace” during the Christmas season, but it’s Saturday, friends – give a girl some grace.
Let’s be honest, smells can put you in a bad mood. As a mom of two boys you know what I mean.
There’s a routine I have in the morning that has alot to do with a good fragrance.
When I walk out of the bedroom I make a beeline to the kitchen where I grab my cup of coffee and turn on the stove with my pot of homemade potpourri. I turn on my Pandora (Jim Brickman – Holiday station) and grab a seat to sit with the Lord.
In minutes, the delicious aroma makes it’s way throughout our home. Does this concoction really smell magical? Well, I overheard our general contractor walk into our home last week and tell his co-workers “This house always smells great. You’ll never want to leave.”
Joanne’s Simmering Potpourri Recipe
5-10 cinnamon sticks
1 heaping tbsp whole cloves
2-3 bay leaves
1/2 sliced lemon
1/2 sliced orange
*Add a few sprigs of your Christmas tree
Put all ingredients in a pot of water on your stove.
Simmer over low heat, checking regularly so it doesn’t boil over or burn out all water.
Merry Christmas!

What a great idea, Joanne! I think I’ll put together something like that. It would be nice to wake up to that. Right now…all I smell are onions in my house. 🙂

Jo,
I used your famous recipe and dried oranges and lemons and added the rest of the ingredients in a pint mason jar. Added a card with the directions with a ribbon. It makes a nice gift. Thanks for you tips.
Love, Holl’s

What a great idea, Holly. Why didn’t I think of that? Sounds like a Pinterest worthy gift 🙂
