January = Prayer Journal for Me

book editDo you keep a prayer journal?

I do.

As a matter of fact, I went through TWO last year. Yeah, that’s how much me and God had to discuss our new life in the south.

That’s my journal for 2014 right over there in the photo. Isn’t it just the cutest?

Every January I purchase a new book to write in. Ross or WalMart are two places to find reasonably priced journals. But, this year I did something I almost never do. I spent ALOT of money on a journal I found at Barnes & Noble. This one is deep green and made with Italian leather with a fleur de lis embossed on the cover.

I absolutely LOVE it.

The fleur de lis  makes it special to me because when we first moved to the south 18 months ago, we made a quick trip to New Orleans and took a swamp tour.  Us Californians just needed to see a crocodile in person.

I was enthralled by the legend of the pure white swamp lily. As the story goes, some believe it was a visual tool used to evangelize to the native Americans by early missionaries.

They used the white swamp lily as their segway to share how the three parts like the fleur de lis represent the Holy Trinity.

Over the years, I’ve written in so many journals. Each morning I have my cup of coffee alongside my Bible and my three favorite devotion books; Jesus Calling, My Utmost for His Highest and Streams in the Dessert.

This year, I was given the new David Jeremiah Study Bible for Christmas from my Dad and stepmom. (My girlfriend actually helped with some of the narrative. Is that cool or what!?)

He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” Reveleation 215

Do you want to be encouraged? Begin writing down your prayers.  When I take a peek at those things God and I discuss it’s miraculous the way He has answered prayers – and changed me in the process.

I write down my grateful thoughts, my pleas for my children and my husband and for so many that I know personally or sometimes don’t know at all. I write down a scripture verse that might speak to me that morning, or a lovely quote or even a funny story I don’t want to forget. Sometimes I even write what I believe God is whispering to my soul that day.

It’s truly the most cathartic, peace-giving part of my devotion time in the morning. There’s just something about writing down your conversation with God and all those things you’re anxious or worried about. In blue and black ink they just don’t seem as scary anymore.

Do you write in a prayer journal?

I’ve always journaled but this year is the first year I am doing a prayer journal. I have chosen the word “pray” for my word for the year and along with my prayer journal goes a prayer box. I’m only a couple weeks into the year and I’m already learning a lot from this… so cool. Thanks for sharing!
