Some of you have been listening to Christmas tunes since last Spring. Believe it or not, I do love Christmas, but you and I can’t be friends. Why? Because you can’t admit the obvious. The obvious is this: after logging in hours of Christmas music listening time, there is at least one song you don’t enjoy hearing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.
Today you get your chance. You can confess your UN-favorite Christmas song here.
I have one you know. Every holiday season I wait for it. Anxiety builds until the moment I hear the very first bars. I could name this tune in one note. And when I hear it, it’s like fake nails on a chalkboard. I’m immediately launched up the nearest wall.
Feliz Navidad is the winner of my UN-favorite song of the Christmas season.
Yep, that would be the one. Feliz Navidad. To me, it’s the most overplayed tune in December. I want to pull my hair out and run screaming out of the store, car, or anywhere else I am in earshot of a radio when I hear this holiday-doody, ahem, I mean ditty.
Seven. It’s the number of times this month I’ve had to listen to it. I keep count of Feliz Navidad each Christmas, just like I keep count of how many BBQ cheeseburgers I eat each summer. Miraculously, it’s the only song since birth I catch from the very beginning each and every time I turn my radio dial.
And, since my kids absolutely LOVE it, each and every time it’s the longest three minutes of my life.
What’s your Feliz Navidad?
