It always surprises me when people of faith find God boring. Is this how you feel? Maybe you have been sitting too long in your comfortable place. If you hang on to the ledge and refuse to jump the adventure will never begin.
We recently got out of our very own comfortable place and took a 2300 mile leap of faith. We moved from California to Tennessee – where no job, no family, and no friends were waiting. Talk about an adventure.
I wonder if people without faith think Christians spend all their time at church enduring boring sermons? I’m guessing a few just might believe that. They’re missing out on so much. Makes me sad.
I’m learning the greater my faith, the bigger the adventure. Little adventures don’t need much faith at all. When the God of the universe has you in the palm of His hand, what is there to fear? I’ve been reminding myself of this very thing when I wake up in the middle of the night wondering—What are you doing here!?
As much as I’d like to think this life is all about me, it’s not. Walking into the unknown without a ten-point plan doesn’t make sense to a watching world. Except, when I fear, I walk. When I doubt, I walk. When I’m anxious, I walk. Each step taken is faith-filled. There are expectations I have. It’s not wrong to expect from God. It’s when I expect God to do what I want Him to do that can trip me up.
There’s a story in the Bible, when (Luke 9:3) 3 He told them: “Take nothing for the journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt.”
It seems odd, strange even. But, what Jesus is asking the men to do is have faith. He is giving them marching orders to continue their mission while wholly leaning on Him. As much as I would like to have this whole trip to Tennessee tied up in a pretty pink bow, God is asking us to walk in faith. As we continue to take steps forward, He will show us the path, find us a place to rest our heads, and provide us with all we need to continue the journey.
When thou goest, thy way shall be opened up before thee, step by step. Prov. 4:12 (Free Translation)
The Lord never builds a bridge of faith except under the feet of the faith-filled traveler. If He builds the bridge ahead, it would not be a bridge of faith.
