This morning the children went back to school. Can I get a HUGE knee-slapping hallelujah and amen?! As much as I love my little darlings, they about sent me to the moon yesterday.
Why?
Because it was the last day of winter break. Actually, they got an extra day off because of the arctic cold and ice we’ve been having. We awoke to frozen pipes. It was quite a shocker. Well, at least to us native Californians who aren’t used to temps dipping below suntan bronze.
Which may have made things a teeny bit harder when my kids came to me at different times with different emergencies. I’ll just include my snarky honest comments from my Facebook page below.
“Let me get this straight….we’re leaving for your swim meat in 90 minutes. You’ve been out on winter break for FIFTEEN DAYS…and decide to tell me right now that you need new swim goggles?!?”
and this one…
“It’s almost 7pm. The kids catch the bus in 11 hours. Have I mentioned they’ve been off FIFTEEN DAYS? My 7th grader just walks up to me, “Hey Mom, I need shoes.” and pokes his big toe through the side of his canvas sneaker…I hate kids.”
It inspired me this morning to rewrite God’s words in Proverbs. You know the ones. Where He shares those beautiful moments that are too wonderful for Him.
There are three things which are too wonderful for me,
Yes, four which I do not understand:
The way of an eagle in the air,
The way of a serpent on a rock,
The way of a ship in the midst of the sea,
And the way of a man with a virgin. – Proverbs 30:18-19
My version:
There are three things which are too wonderful for me,
Yes, four which I do not understand;
The way my heart erases a hard day when I look at my child asleep,
The way an anonymous emptying of the dishwasher makes me giddy,
The way my husband takes our puppy out at 3am in -2 degrees and lets me sleep,
And the way of a school bus arriving to pick up a child after winter break.
